Giving children \nthe success they deserve\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201cTo uproot our family or not to uproot our family?\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/p>

That was the question Rabbi Sugarman and his wife Sarah faced after being told their son, then 15 months, had global development delay. Four years later, he was also diagnosed with Kleefstra syndrome, a rare genetic disorder.<\/span><\/p>

There was no culturally appropriate academic environment in Gateshead. The Sugarmans couldn\u2019t bring themselves to send their child into an environment that didn\u2019t support their religious values.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Would he be stuck home for the future?\u00a0<\/span>
Would he develop socially and academically?\u00a0<\/span>
Would he ever taste success?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The questions loomed. Their only solution was to open their own school.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Thanks to the Sugarmans\u2019 grit and dedication, since 2013, the above scenario has completely reversed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The question is now posed to Rabbi Sugarman from desperate parents in other cities.\u00a0 \u2018Should we uproot our family to Gateshead?\u2019<\/span><\/p>

Humble Gateshead, with its rows of narrow, attached houses, boasts this rare beautiful gem of a building, with state-of-art facilities, gorgeous outdoor grounds, and a programme that\u2019s been dubbed one of the country\u2019s most effective Jewish schools of its kind.<\/span><\/p>

That\u2019s hardly surprising, given Rabbi Sugarman\u2019s oft-repeated motto. <\/span>

Under the guidance of Mrs R Ehrentreu a''h, Haskel begins as a small Educational Support Unit supporting pupils in local mainstream schools. Eventually, due to demand, it grew into a special school. Its newfound acronym?
